Enjoy the Scenery

One of our favorite things about Port Douglas is how picturesque it is. If you’re staying in town, there are a ton of great spots for watching sunsets, and some of them are hidden which means fewer crowds and taking photos. Also, don’t forget that if you head toward Palm Cove about 10 minutes outside of town, there are a bunch of great spots right on the beach. Pack your camera, but also make sure to bring some snacks and drinks so you can take full advantage of this awesome area.

Catch Some Fish

You can choose from a charter trip or a DIY method, such as cast nets or even crab pots. Crab pots have a bonus: they catch crabs. If you don’t want any wildlife besides fish on your plate, then all you need is a rod and reel, but if the freshly caught crab is your desire, then bring both You’ll have plenty of time while out on one of these trips because fishing isn’t always as easy as it seems. Go Crabbing

It’s easy and fun to pick your crabs. There are several public jetties along the water that have traps attached. Slip a crab line under one of them, tie it off and wait for lunch to come swimming by.

Swim with Turtles

If you’re looking for a truly unique Port Douglas experience, swimming with turtles on Magnetic Island is hard to beat. This one-of-a-kind excursion will take you and up to eight friends out into the Coral Sea from the Mowbray Reef pontoon, where you can enjoy a picnic lunch as your captain searches for turtles. You’ll spend about 20 minutes swimming with juvenile green sea turtles at a depth of approximately 5 meters. The turtle population here is growing rapidly and it’s estimated that over 500 baby turtles were born at Mowbray Reef last year. By choosing Magnetic Island, you’ll be supporting both tourism and conservation efforts by giving back directly through an organization dedicated to turtle protection and education.

Relax on the Beach

Head down to Four Mile Beach, where you can choose from stunning stretches of powdery sand or quieter snorkeling bays. Don’t forget your sunscreen.
