The nursing assistant test consists of two separate parts: a written/oral test. and clinical testing/skills

The written/oral exam consists of 60 multiple-choice questions for the CNA exam and is organized into groups. The suggested time to complete the test is two hours. Students have the option of taking a written or oral exam. The oral test is available via CD player and only regional ARC testing facilities administer the oral test.

Clinical/skills tests are presented on an individual basis and are administered in situations where applicants are asked to mimic the care of residents. The test administrator evaluates each skill that each candidate demonstrates directly on the model.

The written and aptitude test are independent of each other. And candidates can take the exam on the same day. If the applicant does not pass the test, he still has the right to participate in other tests. Applicants must pass both tests for certification.

Applicants are given four chances to pass the written test and three chances to pass the aptitude test. If the exam is not passed in the offered opportunity the CNA training program must be retaken and completed.
