5 Tips to Help You Choose The Right Plantation Shutters

Home is your space where you can be ultimately yourself. You must be comfortable in the surroundings. Choosing the right shutter is a matter of your taste. You have several options when it comes to choosing plantation shutters. Here are five tips for choosing the right shutters for your home.

  • Consider Window Sizes

Before choosing shutters, you need to consider the size of the windows. Plantation shutters are available in various sizes, and you need to check whether standard shutters will fit your windows perfectly or they need to be custom-made as per your window size.

  • Decide the Louver Size and Style

The size and style of the louvers depend on the overall look. Experts mention that a 2 1/2 inch louvre is perfect for average-sized rooms with standard heights. However, a 3 1/2 inch louvre might perfectly fit huge rooms with soaring ceilings.

If you’re looking for a more traditional window shutter, exposed louvres are the way. So it is when you can see the movable louvres on the surface of the shutter. If, however, you want a cleaner look and don’t want to be able to see where they move back and forth, then hidden ones are your best option.

  • Select right shutter design – Sunburst and Tier-on-Tier Shutters

Sunburst shutters, a design in which the louvres fan out like the sun’s rays, are a great way to keep out the sun. You can adjust the shutters to open and close them as you want – letting in some light and closing them when you want complete privacy and darkness.

Tier-on-tier shutters are an excellent option if you like to let natural light into your home. They have two sets of frames, one on top of another, with each set can be opened independently. It gives you control over how much light is coming in through your windows – while still giving you privacy by opening just the top half of your window coverings.

  • Consider Locking Options

When considering locking options, consider the safety of all room inhabitants. You can go with a less secure lock if you have kids at home. A less secure lock will be ideal if your kids get accidentally locked in the room.

If you want the shutters to remain closed when you want them to, keep in mind that a more secure shutter lock will make opening and closing the shutter more challenging and less convenient.

Before choosing one of these options, consider the use or purpose of the room. For example, suppose it is a bedroom, and you worry about being able to escape through a window during an emergency. In that case, it’s probably not wise to choose a security shutter with a key lock that requires unlocking before opening or closing.

Similarly, if this is an area where privacy is paramount during certain times of day or night, then making sure that no one can look into your room without your knowledge would be necessary.

  • Colour Choices

Today, shutters are available in a wide range of colours, so you can pick any size that suits your home décor. If you are confused about the right colour, it is safer to go with white, which is a standard finish. White shutters will make the room light and bright even when the shutters are closed. However, if you want a dramatic feel, go for darker colours.

Following these tips while choosing plantation shutters will ensure you are satisfied with the investment made in home improvement.
